Also known as the race that stops a nation, the Melbourne Cup is Australian's major racing event of the year. The 3,200 metre race is for horses aged three years and upwards. It is held annually at the Flemington Race Course during the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival on the first Tuesday in November which falls on 6th November 2012 this year.
